Menno Bos
Fleet Captain 2009
Scheduling Notes – on water participants:
I will establish an assembly area north east of the RVYC dock at 1330 and sail around there until those who participants come within hail. My white Lightning 14089 will fly the Fleet Captain and Vice Commodore flags - (Jeanine Z. will be in Winnipeg so I will fly it as her proxy). The plan is to sail past the Commodore’s vessel on starboard tack on approximately a close reach and salute across the starboard side as we pass. Winds will of course dictate the actual direction of approach.
Plan on the sail past as close to 14:00 as practical given racing commitments of the Martin 242 fleet May series racing at RVYC, the Star racing clinic with Ross Macdonald, and 5o5 rigging and tuning party.
Order of parade: follow me in order of one design class age:
1. Star – (~1911) - approx 13:45 assembly and begin approach to the Commodore’s vessel.
2. Lightning – (1938)
3. 505 – (1954)
4. M242 – (1981)
5. OC – various. (????) – and other vessels X-Class
Pacific Reach is competing in out of town this weekend but Rob expects other paddled vessels to remain in town and be available to participate in the salute. The energetic paddling crews don’t recognize a winter off-season and have been active right through the winter.
Note on order of parade: Rob may claim that OC’s pre-date all sailboats as a prehistoric Polynesian innovation. It’s not clear from the web info I’ve seen, though, whether it’s a one design class or not even today ;) so that’s why the position in the parade.
